Frequently asked questions
We do our best to keep EmuWorld safe and transparent. We only host our own emulator files when a project is no longer actively maintained! Otherwise, we link directly to the official websites of the emulator developers.
We also have a lovely Discord community where you are free to ask other users about their experience with the site. In the end, trust is your choice, but we aim to be as open and honest as possible!
If you are unsure which emulator to use, please check our emulator recommendation posts on the site. Tutorials and setup guides will also be posted on our official YouTube channel, so stay tuned for that!
File sharing on EmuWorld is user generated, so, unlike the files we host ourselves, we cannot guarantee the safety of every file that may be uploaded by other users. At the moment, we do not have automated virus-scanning in place. For now, we recommend downloading shared files with caution. This feature may change in the future depending on moderation and safety needs.
Nowhere.
You must legally purchase your games and dump them yourself from your own hardware. Game ROMs, BIOS files, firmware, and encryption keys are the property of their respective IP holders. Unless you legally own the console and games and dump those files yourself, you will not find them here.
We do not host, distribute, or condone piracy. If you need help learning how to dump your own files legally, please search online. There are plenty of legitimate guides available.
You can talk to us and other members on the website's forum! It works kind of like Facebook. You have to login to do so, though. You can also ask for help on our discord server or any emulation/emulator's subreddit.
No. This is a passion project funded and it is entirely non-profit. Ads or URL shorteners will never be added to the website. We respect your time and honestly dislike ads and URL shorteners.
No! Please refer to the previous answer. EmuWorld is non-profit and will remain that way.
Emulation itself is generally legal, but how it is used matters. EmuWorld does not host or provide games, encryption keys, or BIOS/system files. Users are expected to legally purchase their games and obtain their own system files from hardware they own, and only in ways permitted by the console manufacturer and applicable local laws. These files remain the intellectual property of their respective console makers and game publishers, which is why they cannot be distributed here. Laws and manufacturer policies vary by region, so users are encouraged to review the rules that apply to their specific situation and make informed decisions accordingly. If you are unsure how to legally and safely obtain your own files, there are many guides available online that explain the process depending on your country and device.
