- Yuzu Contributors -

- Status: Discontinued (2024)

Yuzu was built by the dedicated Yuzu Team, with roots in the earlier Citra emulator project. Under the lead of the developer known as Bunnei (alias), Yuzu grew into one of the most important Nintendo Switch emulation projects, leaving a lasting impact on the emulation community. - Ryujinx Contributors -

- Status: Discontinued (2024)

Ryujinx is a discontinued Nintendo Switch emulator and debugger built in C#. It's free & open-source. The creator goes by "gdkchan" and started developing this emulator after working on his own NES emulator as a personal project, gradually developing other emulators and improving overtime, and eventually this project. - Sudachi Developer -

- Status: No Longer In Active Development (2025)

Sudachi, a yuzu fork, is a spiritual successor to yuzu, developed by developer Jarrod Norwell has made notable improvements over the original emulator and was/is seen by some as the one of best yuzu forks to date.

- Status: Discontinued (2023)

Skyline was an open-source, experimental Nintendo Switch emulator for ARMv8 Android™ devices. It was the first NS emulator on android and was developed by a community of open-source developers, with key figures like Mark and Lynx being major contributors. Made by the same team as Yuzu, Citra was an open-source 3DS emulator made for Android, Windows, Linux & MacOS. The lead developer goes by Bunnei, and several contributions were made by the community. A list of all contributors can be found here.

- Status: Ongoing Development

Created by developer Stenzek, Duckstation is a Playstation emulator available on Windows, Android and other platforms. It is known for its amazing compatibility and accuracy. All of the contributors can be found here.

- Dolphin Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

The Dolphin emulator project began in 2003, created by developers F|RES and Henrik Rydgård ("ector"). In 2008, the source code was released publicly, transforming it into a collaborative, open-source community effort. Today, Dolphin is maintained by a global team of contributors dedicated to preserving and enhancing classic GameCube and Wii gaming experiences.

- CemU Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

Cemu began in 2015 as a closed-source project created by two dedicated developers, Exzap and Petergov. In 2022, it proudly became open-source and community-driven. Now available on Windows, Linux, and macOS, Cemu is maintained by Team Cemu and a passionate group of contributors bringing Wii U emulation to everyone.

- DeSmuMe Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

DeSmuME was first created in 2003 by a developer known as Yopyop156. After the original author stepped away in 2006 and released the source code publicly, the project continued as a collaborative open-source effort. Today, DeSmuME is maintained by a global community of developers working together to keep Nintendo DS emulation alive.

- Xenia Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

The Xenia emulator was made and originally developed by software engineer Ben Vanik in 2013. He started the project as a personal challenge after creating a PlayStation Portable (PSP) emulator. Ever since, development has grown into a community-driven, open-source effort with various contributors working on different aspects of the emulator.

- Status: Ongoing Development

PCSX2 began in 2001 as a passion project by Linuzappz and Shadow (George Moralis). It soon grew into an open-source, community-driven emulator shaped by contributors from around the world. Today, PCSX2 is maintained by the PCSX2 Team, continuing to bring PlayStation 2 emulation to life.

- PPSSPP Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

PPSSPP was created in 2012 by developer Henrik Rydgård (hrydgard) and released as a free, open-source PlayStation Portable emulator. Drawing on his earlier work as a co-founder of the Dolphin emulator, Henrik laid a strong foundation for the project. Today, PPSSPP is maintained by Team PPSSPP and a dedicated community of contributors from around the world.

- RetroArch Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

RetroArch began in 2010 as a project called SSNES, created by developer Hans-Kristian Arntzen (Themaister) as a frontend for the bsnes emulator. As it grew to support many systems, it became RetroArch in 2012. Today, led by Twinaphex and developed by the Libretro team, RetroArch continues as a powerful, open-source, community-driven preservation platform.

- ReDream Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

Redream is a Dreamcast emulator created and primarily developed by software engineer Anthony Pesch (inolen) under Recompiled LLC. The project began as open-source before transitioning to a closed-source model in 2018 to support ongoing development through a one-time premium upgrade.

- XEMU Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

xemu is a continuation of the earlier XQEMU project, originally started in 2012 by the developer known as espes, with early contributions from JayFoxRox and mborgerson. In 2020, Matt Borgerson (mborgerson) launched xemu as a new fork focused on improved performance and usability. Today, xemu is a fully open-source, community-driven project supported by contributors from around the world.

- RPCS3 Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

RPCS3 was founded in 2011 by developers known as DH and Hykem, with early contributions from AlexAltea. Released as an open-source project, it quickly grew through the efforts of a dedicated global community. Today, maintained by the RPCS3 Team and led by developers such as Nekotekina and kd-11, RPCS3 stands as one of the most advanced PlayStation 3 emulators, running on Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD with remarkable compatibility.

- ShadPS4 Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

shadPS4 is an open-source PlayStation 4 emulator created by George Moralis (Shadow), one of the original co-founders of PCSX2. Launched around 2023, the project is still in its early, experimental stage, but it has already made impressive progress thanks to the PS4’s PC-like architecture. Today, shadPS4 is developed by Shadow alongside a growing community of contributors, with ongoing updates available through its GitHub repository.

- MeloNX Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

MeloNX is a Nintendo Switch emulator for iOS and iPadOS, created by the independent developer known as Stossy11. Named as a nod to the Switch’s codename “NX,” the project focuses on bringing Switch emulation to Apple devices with features like on-device JIT support and regular quality-of-life updates. Under active development and hosted at melonx.org, MeloNX continues to grow with each new release.

- Winlator Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

Winlator is a free Android application that runs Windows applications and games on Android devices. The original application was created by independent Brazilian developer Bruno Sousa, known online as BrunoSX or brunodev85, who integrated existing open-source compatibility layers such as Wine and Box86/Box64 into a user-friendly package. Contributors here.

- UTM Contributors -

- Status: Ongoing Development

UTM is an open-source virtual machine and system emulator created and maintained by Matt Borgerson (mborgerson) under Turing Software, LLC. Built on top of the powerful QEMU framework, UTM allows users to run Windows, Linux, and other operating systems on macOS and iOS. Today, it continues to grow as a community-driven project supported by various contributors.
